Welcome To CSF – Languedoc
CSF-Languedoc was created in 2009 by a group of English-speakers in the Hérault. CSF-Sud de France, which had been formed earlier the same year, provided valuable support and guidance to the small team setting up CSF-Languedoc.
The Association expanded rapidly due to a focused awareness campaign aimed at English-speaking organisations in the area. Since its establishment, CSF-Languedoc has been instrumental in several CSF initiatives, including training support.
We currently have a membership of around 190, including 10 trained Active Listeners who support between 35 and 40 clients at any one time. Our volunteers provide linguistic, practical and emotional support to English-speakers touched by cancer who live in the Hérault or Aveyron.
CSF-Languedoc organises regular activities during the year. A monthly ‘drop-in day’ provides a safe place for those affected by cancer. Attendees can call in to chat and have a therapy treatment such as reiki, reflexology or massage which are provided by trained therapists.
The “Just Paint!” (Art and Meeting People) group is held monthly. A large and growing body of research indicates that participating in creative activities can lead to better physical and mental health. This is of particular importance for those with long-term illnesses or undergoing difficult treatment procedures which influence their energy and emotional well-being.
CSF-Languedoc currently offers face-to-face support groups for those who are caring for or have recently cared for those affected by cancer.
The groups are run fortnightly and are led by a trained therapist with professional experience of providing therapeutic services to those touched by cancer on an individual or group basis.
Our main fund-raising event of the year, “Walk for Life” is held in May. This is a popular event, successfully raising awareness about CSF-Languedoc as well as funds to support CSF’s services both regionally and nationally. Other fund-raising events take place throughout the year, such as a Christmas tombola, an art auction in 2025 and a St Patrick’s Day lunch in 2026.
